Kickboxing and boxing workouts originated in the 70's but got mainstream in the 90's when Billy Blanks released his Tae Bo dvd series which I owned and used 5 months post pregnancy.

I never really loved it but I have tried various kickboxing or martial arts workouts over the years. I find most boxing type workouts very repetitive and boring but one thing I do love is incorporating kicks, jump rope drills and capoeira moves into my own fatloss workouts.

I may or may not write an article about this soon. Let me know what you think I should cover.

Ms M.

LOL...Billy Blanks...great memories, I never could keep up. I did take kickboxing classes about 9 years ago - and enjoyed them. Now they offer Zumba-kickboxing at the gym, so I guess it has evolved a little.

Thanks for your input. I used to struggle to keep up too. I was 30 pounds overweight at the time and had not worked out in months so it was tough but my endurance improved drastically in 4 weeks just by doing my best.

I love the idea of zumba kickboxing. If you think about it boxers need to have excellent footwork.

Hybrid training is pretty hot right now. I wrote about pilates/boxing a while back. Kickboxing would also be a good fit with flow yoga since flow improves mobility flexibilty balance agility and core stability.

Mixing boxing or martial arts drills with free weight circuit training would be great too. Hybrid is definitely the way to go these days. Keeps exercise from getting boring and trains more movement patterns which boosts function and health.
