The link between children's TV viewing and obesity is pretty clear. Here are some observations to explain why.

We cut off cable and gave up t.v. about 5 years ago and one thing I noticed is that our kids stopped asking for food they saw advertised on t.v. (and toys too).

It's not an easy decision to give up t.v. but even cutting way down to 1 hour a day is a good idea. Kids need to be active or reading or involved with project.

Great article!!

Thanks! I definitely noticed a change, too, when I limited my kids screen time- computer use, too. My teens are limited to 2 hours of screen time a day during the school year, and three during the summer (screen time being tv or computer, one hour of each, unless it's a specific movie), my little ones even less. I want them doing stuff. They've always been active and have never had weight issues, but I did notice with my oldest daughter that where before she had virtually no imagination, that has changed dramatically- like a part of her brain that was totally unused has 'awakened'. It really does matter.
