Hi Debbie,
I really enjoyed your article as your style is direct, common sensical and non fru-fru.
My wife of 10 plus years, Maria, is highly metaphysical and New-Agey in a refreshingly non-pretentious and evolved, consistent manner while I am a self-described "humanistic naturalistic atheistic-agnostic" who sees in all things natural an interdependence, be it biological or geological.
It was not a freak of nature that our wedding day was September, 22, the Northern Hemisphere's Autumnal Equinox. The setting was the beautifully landscaped Rose Garden in San Jose, CA and it was a highly spiritual yet decidedly non-religious ceremony. At the reception, all of the guests symbolically received a small pouch that was filled with rough rocks/minerals and ones that I had polished.
Although we come from perspectives that are 180 degrees apart, I think that what bonds us together is a combination of our non-materialistic respect and appreciation of all things natural and an unwavering adherence to INTEGRITY that is guided by both personal and universal morality.
