Attention Deficit Disorder seems to be more prevalent in certain families. Why do some members develop ADD/ADHD, while others don't? Researchers suspect that environmental toxins, widely available in our lives and homes, might provide at least part of the answer. Environmental Toxins and Developing ADD

Hi Connie,
Do you know if the researchers from Mount Sinai were looking into the correlation between environmental toxins and ADD throughout the world or just the US? I am curious because many countries like Mexico use so many environmental toxins (of course many still being manufactured by US companies and shipped to "developing" countries) that are banned in the US. If there is a link to those environmental toxins and ADD, perhaps the incidence/prevalence (diagnosed or not) of ADD in those countries is greater than in the US?

Les, in the newsletter, I broached that question about countries who have industrial pollution as part of "business as usual."
I don't know if the researchers are going to have a world view. I thought that it would be interesting to see what research is being conducted in other countries.
Some countries have a lot of agricultural jobs or other physical labor. ADD doesn't tend to show as much in that environment, aside from the whole catching your hand in the farm machinery/accidents from inattention things.

What role do you think environmental toxins might play in developing ADD?

Would you like an article about how to avoid environmental toxins?
