Fitness magazine published an article this month that lists the new healthy eating rules that actually work for better faster weightloss.

1. Focus on Food Quality As Much As You Do On Quantity

2. Stop The Endless Grazing

3. Eat More Potatoes (goes hand in hand with carb lovers, carb rotation or balanced meals plans)

4. Stock Your Kitchen for Success

5. Give Yourself An Afternoon Treat

6. Be A Restaurant Snob

This is a great article but only available in magazine (I checked website frown to post link but couldn't find it). I've written about all these in the past except #2 which I'll be covering in an article this week. Grazing is for cows not humans laugh

Instinctively we all know that but it's hard to give up the 6 meals a day mentality when it's been pounded into our brains for years. Turns out 3 squares and 1 optional snack is better for you. More later this week.

I have never been a grazer - i just don't get hungry more than twice a day.

i have heard endlessly that it's easier on the system to eat many small meals. Now they are saying not to?

It is confusing and frustrating that the rules are constantly changing. One year fat is bad the next it's the miracle fatloss supplement. One year carbs are evil the next everybody's using them to burn fat.

I started eating 6 meals a day for weightloss in May of 2000 but it always felt wrong to me. I had never done that before and never struggled with my weight before either. I stopped doing it in 2003ish when I went on Warrior Diet. I wrote about that diet a few times but this was at the height of low carb and also programs like body for life that were advocating 6 or more meals a day.

I eventually went back to 6 meals a day. It's hard not to when everybody at the gym pressures you about setting an example for your clients but it was not really working for me. I always felt sluggish and tired and bloated. Then Ori Hoffmekler published his 2nd book and I was so over the whole 6 meals a day thing so I finally gave it up all together in 2006. Best decision I ever made.

If you think about it it makes no sense to be in a constantly fed state. How the heck is your body going to burn what you eat if you're always eating. It's like going to the gas station and trying to pump another 16 gallons of gas into your tank when you've only emptied it down a quarter tank. The difference is that unlike cars we have extra space (fat cells) where we can store extra fuel.

Unless you're a bodybuilder or an athlete like Michael Phelps who's using all those calories to fuel muscle or hardcore training and recovery then there is no need to be constantly fed.

There's a few psychological reasons why grazing is bad too which I'm going to mention in the article.

LOL, about the ad. I just see Jillian Michaels, whom I adore for some reason.

Maybe different people's chemistry and metabolism react differently to many meals/fewer meals...carbs or not carbs...?
