I think the worst (maybe considered unintentional) unintended abuse is when someone buys a pet and does not know how to properly care for the animal. In the past there was an explosion of iguana popularity. Many suffered from MBD, iguanas as many reptiles need a UV light and additional calcium.

Yes, how many people buy a dog and leave the dog alone to work long hours away from home. The dog causes damage they end up getting rid of the dog, or else the dog suffers in loneliness.

As far as I am concerned both of these situations can be prevented so is any abuse really unintentional?

All my reptile articles (except snakes) and that is even debated, have information on metabolic bone disease. Many people debate if the gecko needs the ultraviolet light (UV) lighting. I say play it safe. These animals do need additional calcium too.

Is ignorance unintentional cruelty? Ignorance is not an excuse if you break a law. How can people help others with awareness? Especially, before they acquire a pet or exotic pet.
