Drug abuse affects all income levels, all races, and all ages. Living with someone who has a drug problem is a huge challenge, but there is help available.

If Your Son is on Drugs

Outstanding article. Sometimes drug abuse can be a symptom of another problem. At least, because of an experience I see it as a symptom. My brother was bipolar. He had abused drugs from early age to late adulthood, quit somehow a few years before he died. He finally quit for my parents. Who were finally able to spend a few years with him without watching him abuse himself with drugs and alcohol. He wouldn't take his prescribed medication because he like the manic side of bipolar. But he hated the depressive side. I watched him go through h---, from swat teams, to burning himself inside a van, abusive relationships. Many times I got him to help. He was such a good actor he convinced ever single facility he was fine. They would let him out again. I flew to California once to get him help. Got him in a facility, because he was a danger to himself, to everyone around him. By the time I flew home he was out living on the streets again. This is when he set the van on fire while he was still inside of it. It had to be an intervention from God. The few years before his death, before my folk's death for him to decide after 55 years to give it up.

I hope every parent sees this article and gets help for their sons.

Oh, Diana, I feel for what you went through. I know the damage having a brother going through this can cause in a family. One of mine has turned his life around completely, but one huffed his brains away and lives in his room at my parents' house. He's 27. He's a cutter. I feel for anyone going through this. Not just sons but daughters too. My nephew just found out his daughter is doing Heroin. She is only 18. Daughter lived with the mom and she was just a bad mother from the get go. So this is what happens to the kids as a result of this situation.

That's sad. Of course, girls are not exempt from drugs. Ironically, my article this week addresses the need to parent diligently. Sometimes with drugs, though, you can be an awesome parent and it's just not enough.
