Tromso, far to the north of Norway, attracts summer visitors to see the midnight sun and winter visitors to see the aurora borealis. The Northern Lights Planetarium is the northermost planetarium in the world. It's worth a visit at anytime, but extra welcome if it's too cloudy to see the sky.

I went to both Alaska and Iceland looking for the northern lights. I never saw them and finally gave up.

That's unlucky, Jim. How disappointing. This year, with all the solar activity, there have even been aurorae further south than usual and next winter should be good too.

But even if there's activity you can't guarantee the weather. A friend went to Norway one summer to see the midnight sun and reported that not only did they not see the midnight sun, they didn't see the noon sun, morning sun, afternoon sun or any sun at all.
