Hii Lynne,

Just came on line and saw your post - your article is very interesting (thank you) and covers a lot of ground.

I am one of those who speaks to God. There was a time that I felt the name of Jesus Christ had been sort of hi-jacked by new/modern Christian thinking and this I did not like. I am too old fashioned and eschew guitars on a stage. All my upbringing has been communing and praying to God anyway, though now I am sort of retired and so too, I am too old to worry too much about how anyone interprets hiso/her own ways of worship. Let be I say, let it be. Still.

You also say:

The Trinity - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Three in One is a hard thing for many to understand and as difficult to explain. I will not attempt that here.

I had a wonderful friend/mentor who took our Sunday School in the Anglican church, Sister Jocelyn. She was a Mother Teresa figure for me as she was all I saw as being a 'really good person' as a child growing up, bless her soul. When we asked her about the Trinity she gave us a 'word-picture' as she called it, of likening the Trinity concept to water.

She said water is water yet it can also have three different states with very different properties. It can be water, it can be steam and it can be ice - yet it remains water and keeps its integrity as one substance.

For growing and questioning minds this was a fine explanation and one that was easy to understand for us. It also allowed us to learn and grow more in the church.

I pass this on only as an example with no finite use. Perhaps others would be interested in it. Anyway, I say cheers

I'm not sure what your point is. Would you explain?

Are you referring to John 12:32?
32 And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself. and 33 "He said this to indicate how he was going to die." (NLT)

In my understading, Jesus was letting the disciples in on how He would die and it also refers to Jesus being glorified when He is resurrected and takes His place at the right hand of God the Father.

Thank you for your post Lestie. I have heard the water analogy about the Trinity and I think it is a good place to start with understanding.

Lynne, anyone can say that they believe in God. Its also easy to attend church in this country and so easy to speak of God. We have no concept of what many people globally are facing having to perservere under persecution in many foreigh lands!!! That is the true test of Christian character. When he said," If I be lifted up" could it not also have meant that He was the way, the truth, and the life. I am certainly not a perfect example of Christianity however I believe that to the Christian, He is worthy of praise and worship. As in days of old many who will not recognize Him do so as a direct result of their deeds. If we truly love people it is not a difficult thing to believe in such an example. dave

Hi Dave - I had forgotten that was your name.
I absolutely agree with you that anyone can say they believe in God. As James said in James 2:19, even the demons do. The proof comes from how a life is lived. A Christ-like character.

I think loving God and loving people goes hand in hand. You don't have one without the other.

Lestie, great analogy - My concept is God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is three persons in one God - Father the Creator, sent Himself as a Son, and comes to us in the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with His grace and fire. Simplistic I know but there is only One God.
