It can be. When the clan and I go on holiday to the US the first comment about the place we rent is "Isn't it big!!" followed in short order by "Bet it's a bugger to heat/clean/protect though!!"
The biggest surprise is the ban on washing lines and the insistence on using big, and very expensive, dryers.
