On Saturday I sent out my
100th newsletter.
It included the story about the PLANET gravitational microlensing project which estimates that there are at least
100 billion planets in the Milky Way.
Picture & more about gravitational lensing. Based on their survey, the European Southern Observatory estimates that there are around
100 rocky planets 1-10 times the mass of the Earth in the neighborhood of the Sun.
It was
100 years ago in 1912 that Lowell Observatory astronomer Vesto Slipher first discovered galactic redshift, which was necessary in order to discover that the Universe was expanding.
