Ricky Nelson is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame but still underrated. Why is this? When Elvis Presley was #1, Ricky Nelson was #2. Girls were wild about him. He scored hit after hit 1957-64 and had two number ones: Poor Little Fool and Travelin Man. I see his influence in The Eagles and the California country rock of the 1970s. Perhaps it is the innocence of his songs and the naivete of the era in which he recorded them that led to his being partially overlooked. Perhaps it is because of his role in his parents television show. Nonetheless, he is one of my all-time favorites. I watched Ozzie and Harriet for one reason, to see Ricky sing his latest hit. He was totally cool. Legendary guitarist James Burton played over his shoulder. It is some of the more obscure Ricky Nelson songs that I like best. I like the upbeat rockabilly. I still go to youtube to watch and listen.
