Another new show we gave a try to this season was Prime Suspect. Again I thought it would be a shoe-in. It has an actor from Saving Grace who I enjoyed. It also has a strong, feisty female police officer much in the mold of Saving Grace and The Closer and In Plain Sight. It should have been great.

However, it's just too heavy handed. It's like they deliberately put all three of those into a blender and then kicked up the power level. It's unbalanced. I enjoy some of the writing but they are trying to stuff too much into it.

Is anyone else watching this?

Lisa this sounds like the US version of a drama written by Lynda la Plante which has been very successful in the UK and received good critical reviews, with Helen Mirren in the role of policewoman Jane Tennyson. There were several different stories made for TV over a number of years, folllowing Jane's rise through the police force, the difficulties she encountered as a professional woman in a largely man's world and some gruesome murder plots/stories. I enjoyed the ones I saw; I think Mirren is a brilliant actor (maybe I'll write about her for English Culture - amongst other roles she has played Queen Elizabeth in the 2006 film The Queen.

We've been watching this show and it kind of grows on you. I like the lead character and also, the supporting cast acts a lot more like real cops and detectives probably do.

HealthyMoms62 - I think you're right - my boyfriend kept watching it and now I'm getting sucked in. I think the "rough edges" at the beginning are getting smoothed out as the characters settle in.

I got sucked in again ... Things have improved. I liked the latest episode about the porn king. I did think they played the tape video longer than necessary. I liked when they bashed the porn king into the wall smile

We've been watching this show and I think you're right, Lisa, the rough edges are getting smoothed out. Jane was kind of hard to handle at first but now she's more "one of the guys" and I'm getting to like her.
