There are alternative ways of having a pet in 'short of space' Tokyo, such as Tokyo's Cat Cafe, where people pay to have a pet just for the day.
Can't take a cat away, mustn't even pick one up, but you can spend as much time as you want surrounded by felines of all shapes, sizes and colors, without having to think about kitty litter or finding the right variety of tasty fishy morsels.

What a fantastic idea. I'd love to go there. Their prices seem a bit steep. I wonder if the staff have to pay to work there?
