Yes not all Germans were Nazis Phyllis, regardless of age and position in life, and many suffered a horrendous end, because their beliefs had made them fight in one way or another against what they saw as 'just plain wrong'.
An almost impossible task in such a vicious dictatorship which had no relationship whatever to democracy, so they knew the risks they were taking but stood to their principles and took them anyway.
