Linda, I do have and love olive oil. I need to add that to my list. I keep realizing things I am forgetting! So thank you for that reminder.

What do you use hemp oil and coconut oil in?

I love coconut milk - is that healthy?

Dear Lori -

It is so true that half the battle is just getting the items out of the house. If they are there they will get eaten.

Donate them to a food bank!

If Bob brings chocolate cookies into the house, I will definitely eat them. They have to stay out.

Excellent, Lori, welcome aboard!

I think milk before dinner sounds great. Or almond milk. Or soy milk. Yum! I am liking adding vanilla and cinnamon to it for extra yum and antioxidants. Cinnamon is also shown to decrease blood sugar when injected with carbs. smile I mean ingested. Yes kiddies, pls do not inject yourself with cinnamon.

I am going to just have to be content with ramen as my go-to 'bad' item. We probably all need a fall back thing that is quick and filling. I think the key is to be aware of how often it's used as a fall-back and try to plan better. I also hope to at least take a moment to toss in some veggies or tuna or nuts in the ramen soup, or something at least from the good list.

Okay, tabouli then. I need to get some.

Dear Jilly -

Absolutely take it one step at a time. It's fine to build safety platforms for yourself, to help you make progress!

I use tuna as my fallback smile

Thanks for the cheerleading, Lisa!

Today I had my milk with cinnamon and vanilla, and then had raisins/nuts/MMs for lunch (trail mix).

Right now working on water with antioxidants.

Thinking about tonite. I just took some brats out of the freezer, and will have one or two with cabbage, diced tomatoes and mustard. I am putting everything out and ready to pull together.

Today is a good lesson in what does NOT work. I woke up at 12:30 noon and got my hot milk ready to bring to my 1-3pm class.

While at class I was happy with only having milk.

I got home, and then futzed around cleaning stuff and then by 4pm realized i needed to eat. I hadn't planned anything ahead of time while I was still sated. So i grabbed the bag of chocolate mexican twinkies that came in my food pantry box and ate a bunch of them.

Blech. At least i followed up with vitamins and am working on my antioxidant water now.

What would have been better was if I'd set out some oatmeal with raisins and spices, all ready to pop in the microwave and go.

Ah well, next time. I am learning how to handle myself in the meantime and will keep reporting on it.

Dear Jilly -

That seems an odd item for a food pantry to provide! When you're picking up your box are you allowed to give things back? smile

No, these things are buried in the box. they wheel the heavy box out to your car and you look through it when you get home.

I track what items I get in my food pantry boxes in my frugal forum here, if you are interested to know what odd things and usual things pop up:

food pantry items

Soda, chips, candy and sugary things show up each week in the Bread of Life boxes, along with the potatoes, onions, cabbage, beans, bread and canned foods. I don't drink soda, so i just keep that in the back of the pantry for guests.

Otherwise I never have anything for people to drink, since all I really have in the house is water and milk, tea, or decaf coffee. I don't like juice or soda at all.
__________

Okay, today's update:

I had the milk and that kept me steady until early afternoon, when I made my oatmeal with raisins.

Now drinking water with antioxidants.

Tonite I want to make this bruschetta thing with the bag of fresh tomatoes i got from another pantry. I will mix it up with herbs, add some lettuce, top it with sour cream and put it on top of some whole grain toast.
