My sister would like to make a quilt for her adult son and is looking for quilt patterns that depict the ocean, working on the ocean as a sailor, or something with a maritime theme that is suitable for a grown man . If you know of such a pattern, please let us know here on the forum.

Many thanks

Hi Judie,

There is one on Etsy - Ocean View Quilt Pattern which may be appropriate. It is a really nice pattern.

Another thought is to find a picture that someone in the family took and copy it on paper, enlarge, cut out shapes and turn it into the quilt pattern blocks.

This is an example of how any picture or card can be turned into a quilt pattern:

I got this card from someone years ago and loved the picture. I photocopied it, cut out all the shapes (like the black shapes on the cows, the white shapes, etc.) and enlarged each piece. I used those enlarged pieces for my patterns and put it all back together in fabric, like a puzzle. This is a wall hanging -- but, the same method can be used for a quilt.

Hi Judie, The "Storm at sea" pattern is fabulous, but if your sister doesn't want to think about her son in that situation (and what mother would) then how about ocean waves?

Thanks everyone for your help. My sister is liking the Ocean Waves pattern and is going through possible design variations. I'll keep you posted with the outcome.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to help.
