Are gold and silver coins still good for investing? Or is everyone scrapping down their metals now?

That is a question I have had too Jilly, keep hoping someone will have the answer.

I have a friend with gold coins who says that he is holding on to them in spite of the scrap prices being so high. He says that it would not make sense to trade a stable asset (gold) for a depreciating asset (paper money).

i guess that makes sense if you intend to hold onto the investment. But i think if one needs actual cash to use, this is the time to sell. That is what I have heard, but don't really know.

Hey, Gold and silver coins still are the best for investing. This is so because they never depreciate instead they appreciate in their value. This is the reason why athletics is the best and the most paying of all games.

Please keep us posted on your friend and how this all works out for them.

Well, since my friend has the investment for the long haul, i don't think there will be any news to report.

I do think that now is NOT the time to buy silver and gold. But if one is going to sell, this is an excellent time, or so i have heard.

I just checked on silver. It's fluctuating between 28-29 dollars an ounce. So that is up considerably since last i checked last month.

Gods, no, I am in the selling position. This is not the time to buy!

I have been calling around to the many places that buy sterling for scrap. Right now it's between $16-$19.50 an ounce for the buyers, and straight scrap for silver sterling is close to 30 (that is what THEY can get, not joe folks off the street).

my mom knows a place in san diego that will give sellers $25 an ounce sterling but i'd have to mail my scrap to her, and insure it...and by that time I might just sell at the $19.50 an ounce place here!
