Do you think the golden dollars that were first minted a few years ago are a good investment? I like them and save them. I sometimes use them as presents, etc because they are so unusual and pretty. Kids love them. What are your thoughts on holding on to them for an increase in value?

Actually I have already benefited. I don't give them away as quarters as I have done in the past with the Susan B. Anthony dollar. I have noticed that golden dollars are hard to come by these days, most of the time I cannot get any from my bank. Do you think people are hoarding them

I know that they are hard to get now a days. I have been holding onto the ones that I have. I've collected them for my children for when they get older. I have some old silver dollars that I will pass over to my children too. This will be another coin that I will pass to them as the silver coins were passed to me.

And yes, people are hoarding them big time!!! My husband said that people are picking them up as fast as they are made. He asks every time he's at this particular store and the clerk told him that they haven't gotten anymore. They are gone. We may have to go to the US Treasury for the newer Gold dollars.

I had forgotten this post. Thanks for answering and confirming what I thought I must admit that am also a hoarder of these coins. Actually it also has to do with feng shui (sp?). I will see if I can get more info for us and do a post.

Hi. Where I live, they seem to be plentiful.I would gladly get some for whoever wants them. I just keep the best, and spend the rest.

HI;just a note if you were one of the lucky 5500 who found the 2000 dollar and the penny in a box of Cheerios, that dollar is concidered a Pattern and will bring from around $1000 up depending on the condition.many people found them and put them in a drawer, boy they are really going high.Check ebay under Cheerios Dollar in Search, they have one ever so often. You can also still order the new current dates,2007 P or D uncirculated from the U.S.Mint,by the role or the bag.

Do these coins actually contain gold, or are they just gold color? I have a roll of them.

The mint struck a few real 22-karat gold Sacagewea's, but went mostly to collectors & denominated at $5. The golden color comes from a copper core clad by manganese brass.

Shucks!

Ahh, too bad. I didn't think they could be gold; they'd be worth a lot more than one dollar then. smile

My dad used to get rolls of these and pass them out to children while traveling in Mexico - it was always very exciting for them. So he passed on a roll to me once it got too unsafe to travel there.

Should I hold onto them?

Yep, I just found my roll of them. I guess i will hold on to them some more.

I also found a small amount of Susan Bs that i've kept. They really do look like quarters.
