Here's a new picture from NASA taken in infrared of the Barnard 3 nebula, a stellar nursery. You can see a bright star in the centre lighting up the dust. The green shows warm dust and the red somewhat cooler dust. The blue-white stars aren't part of the nebula, but are in the foreground and background. Since we can't see in infrared, the colours are chosen to represent different wavelengths of infrared. These seem to have been chosen for a nice seasonal feel!
