An unpublished "magazine" written by Charlotte Bronte when she was 14 was recently sold at auction for �690,850. The seller was German, the successful bidder a French museum. The book (which I saw on the news yesterday) was tiny - 35mm x 61mm.

Yes, I remember those days in Jamaica, West Indies before we gained our independence from the Queen - shillings, pence and so on. What a pain it was in school(lol).

We now have our own currency - dollars and cents like the USA, but believe me, worth a lot less.

Angela I've just put the figure in to a currency converter and it come out as:

$263,496.74

Seems to me like a lotta money!

I tend to think of things that achieve large sums at auction as being works of art - interesting to see something so small getting such a high sale value. But then small is beautiful...
