Sometimes bosses think they are doing good when in reality - it may have the opposite effect, for example:

"I don't care how you do it, just get it done."

While a boss may think this inspires independence, said to the wrong person can imply permission to take dangerous shortcuts, be dishonest or act illegally. Many managers learn the hard way, this could be a "recipe" for disaster!

What is the worst thing your boss ever said to you?

Hey Dianne:

My boss is famous for I "deputize" you to me when he does not want to work, then "micromanages" when he does(lol).

To me "deputize" means I am your deputy (assistant) and you should be able to trust me.

Confusing to say the least.

The worst was about 40 years ago.

"Just be yourself, and if yourself isn't good enough, then you have to do better."

Same boss about an employee that I was supervising:

"What can we do to her to get her to quit or transfer? How about putting her on nights, so that she can't see her kids?"
