Lori, as you often do, you posted a story that is full of wisdom. I've been married since 1979. That's a while. Has it always been easy? Nope! Is it forever fun? Again, nope!

I have a wonderful friend to share the good times and the lousy times. We enjoy being together, and we tend to not make a big deal over things that we know the other one won't or can't change. I am grateful every day that I married my true love and good friend.

My mother always said, "Don't get married until you find one that you can't live without." Fortunately, I listened, for once!

Your mother is wise. Someone else told me that while he thinks about divorce, he won't divorce because he still prefers to live with her than without her.

Why do you stay married?

I stay married because I married my best friend, and I can't imagine my life without him.

Also, I've been through one divorce and I never want to experience that level of pain again.

We have been together for almost 11 years, only legally married for 3 of those years. We stay married because we are best friends, I feel incomplete if we are apart too long, like something is missing. We make great partners in everything we do. We know we can count on each other to be there when we need someone to hold us up. He is my 2nd husband and the total opposite of who i was with before.

I do understand the pain of divorce, and if at all possible I think the better alternative is to stay married if you can be patient and work out the issues. If the love is still there it is well worth it not to throw in the towel.

I see a common thread here. Friends stay married, maybe because they are friends.

Married, means that you legally have a solid connection with one person, and this man or woman always can give you a special emotional space to live with. And when you feel bad, he/she is the best person to speak to. I think...
