This is a great image of how the Barbie figure compares to a real life woman.

Interesting photo. So what do you think Barbie's stats would be and what are the average woman's stats these days?

I remember reading a long time ago that most women weigh 150lb and are a size 12 but I think the times have changed and those numbers might be much higher now since 75% of the population today falls into the obese or overweight category (who comes up with these numbers anyway).

There's a fitness chic on youtube that looks just like Barbie (she even used to have the blonde hair too). Turns out we are virtually the same height and I weigh slightly less than her so why do I often feel like the plus size girl. I'm 5'4 I weigh anywhere from 118 lb. to 120 lb. my bodfat is generally 20% (right now it's higher and I'm trying to lower it) and I wear a size 2-4 (depending on bodyfat).

It makes me crazy that men and so many women think you need big boobs to look hot. It also bugs the hell out of me that a healthy woman like me is not taken as seriously in my line of work because I don't have ripped abs and arms and a teeny waist and huge fake breasts or fake blonde hair like most of those barbie looking fitness competitors do.

I think women are as much to blame as the media for body obsession and ridiculous standards of beauty. Thanks for posting this. Venting about this makes me feel better.

You are an average size of 2 and 4 which is normal for your physiqe. At least you admit you admit you are healthy. Which you should be. Now if you said you were a 10, 12 or even a 16 then year I would forgive you for saying what you said.

According to an article in the HuffintonPost Barbie would be: 5' 9", 39" bust, 18" waist, and 33" hips, with a size 3 foot.

I think the average woman is a size 14 at 5'6" but I don't have a reference for that.

Regardless it is an unrealistic image.

Along the same lines, I saw a great video/doc today called Miss Representation. The video is about mid-screen.

That neck is scary! She would have a broomstick for a neck! How do we think these dolls are human looking?

I agree with Lisa, why should the neck be like that? Don't forget to visit LIFO. It's an online home for information and comment on girls' interests whether it be the latest Hollywood gossip or tips on the trendiest fashions.

Barbie is a doll not a real person! And let's say for a moment that she is, if that would be the case then she would be a person too so judging her and blaming her for other people's weight and weight issues would be bullying her!

I think Barbies are weird - look at these measurements, but they're toys. A human person with Barbie's proportions would be seriously handicapped.

But do girls really want to be skin and bone (except for the boobs) with feet that wouldn't hold them up just because they had a doll that was like that? (The feet may me think of the foot-binding - horrible!)

Mona,

I have yet to either meet or hear of someone who wanted to be Barbie or another doll besides a few person (as far as i know theres 1 man who wants to look like Ken the woman i know of im not sure she has Barbie in mind - i would not be surprised if theres more) who keeps having surgeries to look like a doll or whatever else they have in mind but it is safe to say that these people have many mental issues to do that and even if they don't it still has nothing to do with dolls it has to do with them.

Anyone who look at a doll or anything else and it then causes them anxieties or other mental issues they have problems to start with which has nothing to do with the object in question and that object is of course not to blame (and it of course is the same for all the other objects).
