Actually the British did not only plunder during the 1812 war Beetleness, and this is well documented in detail, both in US published text books that are probably available from a library, and most likely readable somewhere online.

It would not be possible to maintain that their support of the native American tribes was totally altruistic, because it most certainly was not, however the most shameful thing is that the army deserted their Indian allies when it suited them, and by doing so left them open to their ultimate loss of home, land, continued forced assimilation and genocide.

Gosh did not mean to scare you Sandy. Think you have had enough scaring to last a lifetime in the last weeks. smile

We can all learn some hard lessons from the past, and that includes our various 'leaders', hopefully they read their history books as well as taking their legal degrees, communications diplomas, or whatever, and turning to politics.

Find it is important though that the economic circumstances etc. in place during those end 1920's - 1930's in Germany are known in this particular case, as well as what they helped lead to, because also here in Europe there are currently enormous problems in the financial sector. Which of course are affecting all of us in one way or another.

Most seem to have stemmed originally from the US subprime mortgage crisis, which had a disastrous affect on European banks that had invested money, with the subsequent knock on effect throughout the financial sector and everywhere else.

This has already led to a rise of the 'far right' in many countries. Not powerful at the moment and perhaps in many cases a protest at the present situation, however, whatever it is, the world and those of us that live in it do not want it and through the lessons from the past we know this, so no need to be 'a little scared', just aware.

And I do hope Roxie finds her way home soon, then you will really have a super reason to smile!

It all seems to be in the way it's interpreted. Almost sounds like political bureaucracy.

Beetlemess, you're good. Never thought of the embassies. I was looking for the British in the capitol and the Japanese in Alaska.

I have to give a point to Beetlemess for the embassy statement.

Next Question:

What did Abraham Lincoln say about Grant's drinking habits? This is a famous quote he used.

I found the *general* theme (pun intended) quoted with slightly different verbiage.

"I wish some of you would tell me the brand of whiskey that Grant drinks. I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals."

"Find out what Grant drinks and send a barrel of it to each of my other generals!"

That's it! I always laugh when I read that quote. What others saw as a flaw, Lincoln saw as an asset. How many times can drinking be looked at as an asset? LOL

Last question (though Beetlemess has won, I have to give the last one):

What was Grant's middle name?

He was born Hiram Ulysses Grant. Therefore his middle name was Ulysses.

The "S", stood for nothing.

How right you are!

Congrats, Beetlemess. Message me your address and I'll get that book out to you this week. I'm shipping a lot of books this week to readers.
