I can't tell you how many moms I speak to who wish they could ban birthday parties - they complain about the time going to parties takes away from family - the useless presents that are given and received - and the cost to throw a party, even when done frugally.

What do you think? Would you join the moms in your class to ban birthday parties? Would you opt for one celebration at the end of the year to honor everyone? Do you enjoy all the birthday parties throughout the year?

Unfortunately in today's economy I think many may pass up on going to parties or throwing one.

And you make an important point about family time. Families hardly see each other any more with all the school activities.

You're right, Violette. I'm not a party pooper, but I think we can attach some good lessons to birthdays - especially given the economy!!

How about a party with a community service focus? You can still serve cake (homemade to save money!)
