In 2011, the MDA Telethon will run during prime time television for 6 hours on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend. The new format will include two local segments, seven and eight minutes each, of local Telethon coverage each hour. Aspects of social media will also be included.

I read that Jerry Lewis isn't going to be on the show for the first time?

Yes, it appears that Jerry Lewis will not be part of the telethon. Also, the MDA recently announced that he stepped down as National Chairperson for the MDA in May, 2011. Details about this have been scant, however. You can read a formal announcement on the MDA website.

I read that some comedian friends of Jerry Lewis are holding their own online fundraiser as well, kind of in protest. I also read that the telethon will be only 6 hours this year. Will be interesting to see how much money they raise without Jerry Lewis.

They say that the one thing constant is change! This is a year for big changes with the MDA Telethon, and we will have to see how these changes go over.

I'm getting ready to go this evening to help with our local Telethon event and I hope that it will be successful.

I was glad that they opened with a tribute to Jerry Lewis' work with the Telathon last night. I haven't heard any numbers yet to know how successful their new format will be.
