Came out last week to find our cat Teddie with a blood-smeared behind and jelly-like dark blood in the poop. One quick vet visit later I had to get 3 different samples of his scat for analysis to check for a particular 'bug'. Plus tablets to keep any infection at bay.

The vet was very worried and potentially wants to send him to the specialist centre in Ringwood (This is all in the UK by the way) for MRI, 3D imaging, and some other non-invasive stuff - all on the insurance 'dime' thank Bastet.

Teddie now seems back to his old self. Checking around with other cat owners suggested that the food he was on might have contained beetroot which can cause a serious allergic action. Does anyone know more about this? It's about the only variable I can think of as he lives in a pen during the day, and comes in for the late afternoon to 10:30pm carried both ways.

Any other thoughts would be helpful - thanks very much

He seems to be back to health, but still giving him his antibiotics and waiting for the vet to get back to us re any underlying conditions. The trouble is he's a pedigree Devon Rex cat and looks like he might have been over-bred. very worrying..

*Sigh*- Now he has developed a watery eye. Surely not through infection as I thought the antibiotic course he was on would have stopped that. Looks like another vet visit if the cold teabag remedy doesn't work.

My cat did that, and he had a bladder infection.

His bladder seems fine, and the cold teabag to the eye treatement seems to be working. Still keeping the vet visit as a viable option though.

Teddies eye, rear, and droppings seem fine now. No word back from the vet yet so hopefully all is well. Thanks for your concern

Just had a 'phone call from the Vet. Tests suggest Teddie has mild Corona Disease. Had tips on keeping it at bay and the signs of when to bring him in for treatment.

Very good vet, am recommending him to the local Pagans and most of the family are now signed up to his practice.
