I;m looking for a divorce that occurred in Texas in the 1920's. I can't find any records. Does anybody know where to go?

Hi, Rebecca - have you checked with the county clerk's office in the county you think the divorce took place?

You might want to start with the state library and ask them where the best place to look is also.

Were they divorced where you think they were divorced? Were they divorced? You may have to look in other counties or states depending on where the parties lived.

I'm about ready to call the clerk on that. Might do it this week.

You know this whole thing is confusing. He told my grandmother he was divorced. His first wife has herself as widowed on the next census and he was not dead yet. She was even getting remarried that same year.

I can't find their marriage records, their divorce records, or anything. His great-grandson from his first wife swears that we aren't talking about the same man, their names are different, but their birth dates, place of birth, death dates, and place of death are the same. AND the son he had with his first wife came to visit us once. I have traced him including seeing pictures of him but his records claim to have a different father's name - close but not the same.

I have no idea what to think about this. I wonder if they never divorced and he changed his name just enough to be different. Which makes him and my grandmother not married and she always thought they were.
