It is a topic that is not often discussed and with the passing of time long forgotten, the children who belonged to Hitler's closest associates, the Rudolf Hesse family, the Goebbels, the Himmlers etc.

What happened to them, and to their lives, when faced with the truth of what had taken place to others, while they were enjoying an often idyllic childhood with a 'perfect, caring and often cultured', father. One who for them had been like any other.

Many of them are still alive and My Father's Keeper:Children of Nazi Leaders - An Intimate History of Damage and Denial, follows the lives of some of those left with the unenviable legacy of being born to senior members of the Third Reich. How were they treated by their fellow countrymen in the time of post war life under the Allies, and what place do they, and their names, have now in modern Germany.

In many ways it is a step back in time, but also our present day world has its brutal dictators, while there are wars and financial crisises which have destroyed lives in many ways, and were often brought about unnecessarily, and without foresight, by people who have their own families.

Will their children also look back one day with mixed emotions, regret the actions of their parents and have to live with the consequences?
