Serena Williams stopped by Stanford last week and swept the field, winning her first tournament in over a year. She looked like the Serena of old, blowing past Maria Sharapova, Sabine Lisicki and Marion Bartoli in matches that weren't very close.

The win at Stanford moved Williams from 169th to 79th in the rankings. She will use her injury-protected No. 1 ranking to enter the U.S. Open, coming up in September.
