Bob and I are working to become as aware as we can about everything we send into the trash stream. We recently turned our attention to the cat litter box. This creates a substantial volume of stuff that goes into trash bags.

We are now switching the cat over to pine litter, and will put all the litter and waste into a large plastic bin. When it gets full we'll put it into the far corner of the back yard to sit for a year or two and then use it on flower gardens only.

Is anyone else doing this?

Lisa, how is this going? My cats don't have a litter box - they take themselves out the cat door and do their business in the scrub. If i did use a box I would compost it also. smile

I tried switching to the pine litter but my cats wouldn't use it. I hope you have better luck. Maybe my cats are just too set in their ways to change.
