The Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles will be screening anime from the 1920s through the 1940s in July and August. The first screening takes place on Thursday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m. and will include some of the earliest known anime titles, such as: Mighty Taro's Reckless Training (1928), The Black Cat (1929), and The National Anthem Kimigayo (1931). The remaining showings are taking place on the following Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.: July 28, August 4, and August 25. Each night, about a dozen short anime films will be shown in rough chronological order.
This film series is part of the Tateuchi Public Program Series, organized between the Atsuhiko and Ina Goodwin Tateuchi Foundation and the Japanese American National Museum. These screenings will be free for Museum members and free with admission for non-members; the museum encourages donations from attendees. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the Museum. These screenings are running alongside with the museum's Year of the Rabbit: Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo exhibition.
