Whether you think your son is a reader or not, once you give him one of the books on this list, he is sure to want to spend at least some summer days stretched out on the couch with a book!

Great Summer Books for Younger Boys

My son won a reading award this year. He reads so much I can't even keep up with him and I'm a readaholic!

He devoured the entire Harry Potter series, the Diary of A Whimpy Kid Series, Percy Jackson and The Olympians series, and The Last Dragon Chronicles series.

He also loves graphic novel series like Bone and Pokemon.

He also enjoys reading those books of boy stuff and factoid type books on Star Wars or games he's into. Those are fun because he can read one or two pages every once in a while.

I think it's important to give them all types of stuff to read (magazines, books, series, comics, etc.) as long as they're reading every day and loving it : )

I guess I feel a bit differently. I have a visceral dislike of whimpy kid. He's not someone I want my boys to aspire to emulate, and I guess I just think it's very low humor, low vocabulary, etc. I love Percy Jackson and, of course, Harry Potter. Of course, I think my sons are much younger than yours, Monica, if I remember correctly (mine are 6 and 7). That has much to do with it, too!

Great group of books. My son consumed the suggested selection some time ago and said that it was great reading. He is now exploring random selections which includes comics. We take a trip to the library every two weeks. Thanks for providing the selection. Some parents are lost when it comes to how to encourage their son to read and what types of books. Thanks for giving them a head start!
