I'm a bit late coming to this party, but I am a Reference Librarian at a public library. This is my second career. Interestingly, most people who work in libraries that I have met came into the career from a completely different field. It is definitely a calling, not a choice. If you have a strong desire to serve people then this could be a great career.

I've spent my life using libraries and was a page as a teen. I never thought to be a librarian until after I had spent considerable time in the healthcare field. I knew instantly my first semester of grad school that I had found my place at last.
