What can you do when your child can sound the words out as he is reading, yet he seems to have no idea about what he just read? How does he feel when he can't answer the reading questions in class? Try this strategy and help your child learn a way to develop Reading for Meaning!

Get out the reading books and notebooks! Take advantage of the rest of summer to help your child improve his or her reading comprehension.

Years ago, I had one sixth grader who came to me testing out with a second grade reading level. From September to December, he raised his comprehension three grade levels by doing the Reading for Meaning strategy. He was reading at a fifth grade level by Winter Break! Don't you just know that reading better made a huge difference for him in doing class work?
