Taking on a magical name is a pretty common practice in the pagan community. And I've met some people who have taken on the most beautiful names. But then I've met some folks who have taken it just a bit too far.... Rhiannon Raven Thundermoon Astra Starwalker, to me, is just a bit much. Any of those on their own, very lovely, but let's not get carried away LOL.

Have you taken on a magical name? Why did you chose the name you did? Do you feel it gave you power?

well i thought about that today about names that went too far and people taking powerful names because of them being famous but having nor relationship or even captivating the bearer s intentions.
i like to change names,some do come back,and i do it because it expresses a part of me at a specific moment in my life or it defines something i want to create.most importantly the connexions that make me choose a name come from inside me.i like sound and relate to it a lot.
words are power in the sense that they carry a meaning and help you make things come true if they have grown inside you,if not you re a poser.
i sometimes remember bits of my real magical name but it s not in this language.
also if you choose many names which i haven t done yet but like the example you give it s good to have a core and a sense of direction.

i don t know if it gives me power but it permits me o express something in the material world.
some magician don t give their magical names cause they are afraid that someone will have power over them.

I have never taken on a magical name. I just never saw a reason to. Yet, now that I think about it, if I did take on a magical name, I would choose 'Morgan le Fay'. I so love that name and the powers for which it symbolizes.

Morgan le Fay is my favorite character in the Arthurian legends.

Oh my! I like all my names. I always try things like this three times. I think I prefer Danu Osiris Sage. I have always felt a strong link to the Tuatha de Dannan, People of Danu. So this is a good name for me.

I got my name as Moonwoman Eagle Aidan and I love it!

And this is somewhat creepy, coz I actually love the moon...a lot. I just keep staring at it when I'm walking or standing at some place. It's like some power radiating from the moon that is so captivating to me.

Oh great. This was the second name - Morgaine Tiger Moonstone.

In many Craft (traditional) covens people also get nicknames from their fellows. For example one of the senior Pagans in Portsmouth is called 'Cowboy' because he would turn up from Western Re-enactments in full costume.

The name can change from area to area too. For example I'm known as 'Judge Dredd' - or simply 'Dredds' from when I helped out at the Pagan shop in Portsmouth because of the way I dealt with shoplifters and troublemakers. But in the Southampton/Eastleigh/New Forest it's 'Cammo', from the song "Camouflage" because of my ability to blend into whatever situation is happening and I make sure people are OK.

Just checked with a Witch in Winchester- apparently another reason my nickname is "Cammo" from the song is that I'm seen as regarding death as a minor inconvenience
