This is a fascinating topic and i love how we are all discussing this calmly. I can totally see that many women, who have had this done, think it is 'right and proper' and that they are assuring their daughters of a safer, happier future.
I do think that eventually this practice can mostly end. We mostly have eliminated slavery, although I understand the skin trade still exists in areas. People are growing more tolerant with every generation about different races, religious beliefs and world views. of course this is a slow process and in some areas is still seems like the dark ages. But overall i think the balance has been flowing towards tolerance. Well, creeping, rather than flowing. But with time even creeping changes add up.
