Are there really any favorites on the women's side at this year's French Open? Maybe Clijters but she's coming back from injury. Could be the time for Wozniacki to step up. Who do you think is going to win?

The #1 and #2 women's seeds are both out and it's not even the end of the first week. Neither Wozniacki or Clijsters were playing worthy of a champion. Sharapova almost blew it against the local french teen, but is now a favorite to come through in the bottom half. And nobody is talking about the defending champ, but Schiavone is quietly and easily advancing. Very interesting.

Schiavone will play to defend her title against suprise Chinese Li Na (or is it Na Li). Looking forward to a very entertaining women's final. Sharapova seemed like she had a shot but really how are you going to double fault on match point!

So happy for Li Na. She makes history as the first Chinese woman (or man) to win a Grand Slam singles title. Glad to see all her hard work finally paying off.

China's government didn't begin a push into tennis until after the 2004 Olympics, when Li Ting and Sun Tiantian won the women's doubles gold medal. To China, the Olympics are a bigger deal in tennis than the majors. Li is seen as a rebel in China, or at least a representative of a new generation.
