So I am doing a low carb Diet and need some help with portion size. I am using the chart for vegetables but not sure what is meant by a half of a cup. I would like to see the chart in weight. My concern is the size you cut things into will greatly change how much weight is in a half of a cup. So a finly chopped item would put much more in a cup than would one inch chunchs. So what is the right way to measure.

Often they will say whether it is chopped or not.

1/2 cup nuts, chopped coarsely = measure the nuts, then chop

1/2 cup chopped nuts = chop the nuts, then measure them

That's the way that I see it. However, I think the best thing is to try to do the measurement, but don't stress over every bite. That will discourage you. The best thing about measurement is that it will help you become aware of what you eat.

Right Connie is exactly right. Nothing is ever going to be exact. Different carrots have different amounts of sugar. Different apples do. Everything is an approximation, you're just going for a general sense.

Even if you did weight, that would change based on the day's humidity - how much water had soaked into the item in question.
