The stigma surrounding HIV is almost as bad as actually having the disease. There are many stereotypes associated with this disease. The one that bothers me the most is the stigma that HIV/AIDS is a dirty disease. HIV is about behavior not cleanliness.

Jontay, I think that people are just scared to death of HIV/AIDS. It's one of the reasons that I so appreciate your articles and dedication to the subject.

Would you be able to address the correlation between teen pregnancy rates and the incidence of HIV/AIDS in communities? It seems that there should be a link, since they both can result from unprotected sex. Have there been studies? You get the baby a short time later, but AIDS may take years to develop. What are the implications for communities with high teen pregnancy rates?

Tulicia,

Combating the fear of knowing. is my lastest article. It talks people through fear to empowerment. Ignorance is never the better choice. Knowledge is power!

Connie,

Because Adolescence is the time of experimentation and curiosity and the general thought pattern is that HIV/AIDS/STD's cannot happen to me.

60% of all the new HIV infections worldwide occur in young people.

This statistic is more than alarming. This accounts not only for unprotected sex as it relates to STD's but also teen pregnancy. Areas where there are high levels of teen prenancy can certainly also account for high levels of STD's including but not limited to HIV/AIDS.

I did a search to find out if studies have been conducted surrounding the two subjects and found nothing. I will continue to search though as it is an interesting question.

Hey Jontay,

I enjoyed your article so much I referred it to another HIV/AIDS organization so they can have another area for resource information. Thanks for writing and sharing!

Hey Jontay,

I have one more question. For a suggestion of a future article can you write about HIV/AIDS and either Special Needs Children or Children in Mental Health. I am not sure if some of our readers are aware that HIV/AIDS exist within children that are in the mental health world. I would love to see this article as one of your list of articles to write. I would love to be able to share this as another form of resourse to some of my mental health audience. I really appreciate the articles and resources you provide for parents. You are right knowledge is power, being educated about this better helps others understand and then able to better deal with. Thank You!
