I was watching a celebrity trainer workout video the other day and thinking about how hard some of those exercises were for me just a couple of years ago. I am turning 41 soon and these days that same workout is easy.

Age has nothing to do with how fit you are and an old dog can learn new tricks. I've been teaching older adults how to do planks and stability ball leg curls and trx rows and sandbag swings for years and they are always amazed at how they CAN do it.

Age is just a number so get after it!

I absolutely agree with you. I think people use age as an excuse sometimes, to explain why they shouldn't try. I know many elderly people who are very fit. It's a state of mind, how much energy you're willing to invest in your own health.

I just weighed myself today and I'm in better shape now at 42 than I've been in MANY years. My stats today are:

weight: 115.8
fat: 11.2%
water: 64.4%
bone: 5.9
muscle: 48.0

If you simply put your head down, focus, and take short, measurable steps towards your goals, you can get there.

If your knees hurt so you can't run, do water exercises. If you can't touch your toes, do yoga to improve your flexibility. There is always some sort of activity you can do to help you get past your hurdle.

My boyfriend was at 300 pounds last August and now he's at 215 pounds. It didn't take pills or surgery. He put his head down, and started doing what he could do every single day. He was diligent about going back every day without excuses. I give him a lot of credit for sticking with it.

Exercise never related to age but if our age is more then do less tough exercise so it will not cause harm to us. And walking is best exercise for all age person and also burns more calories then any other exercise, rain get fresh oxygen.

Good point! Whether you are 20 or 80, if you've never exercised consistently then starting out all hardcore is not the way to go. Progression and periodization are key to getting results without injury or frustration.

Walking is generally great for most people although some people can't even do that which is why recumbent bikes were invented : ) Nice post!

I'm curious about the bone and water stats too. The only way to get an even close to accurate measure of all that is to get dunked in a hydrostatic tank and even those are not that accurate. 11% sounds way off. Even fitness competitors and athletes don't get this low. Some guys can get this low for them 7% or lower is rare.

115 at 11% bodyfat is

115 x 11% = 13 lb fat (you always gotta round up on everything)
115 - 13 = 102 lb of other of which should mostly be lean muscle.

115 x 64% water = 73 lb of water (that doesn't sound right at all) bone 6 lb? I think bones weight a lot more than 6 lb.

Bodyfat scales are not this accurate. Here's what most trainers would tell you in the gym: 115 - 13 = 102 lb lean muscle mass because the caliper formula accounts for pinching subcutaneous fat and water. If using a bodyfat monitor those are from 2-5%.
