I had read the book a while ago but finally saw the movie tonight. I found it immensely sanitized. A lot of the complexity of the book was whitewashed away. I think that makes the movie a different kind of story. Now it's a casual travelogue of a woman who learns about different cultures and sort of about herself. Maybe that's better, maybe that's worse.
I think one good thing is that this will introduce lots of people to the power of meditation. Meditation is talked about a fair amount in the movie, and the way it helps focus the mind is described. Characters are seen to meditate as a natural, normal part of their life - something they look forward to.
It of course helps that she's meditating in an absolutely gorgeous beach retreat
Did anyone else see it? What did they think of the meditation aspect of it?
