Ryan Gosling as Logan in a remake of the well loved British sci fi classic? What does everyone think?

I loved Logan's Run. It would be hard to picture a remake with anyone playing the lead.

Yes, Michael York owned it, I think - and certainly it would be hard to find anyone today who could replace Peter Ustinov as the Old Man, or Richard Jordan as Francis. Any ideas, anyone? Liam Neeson isn't old enough lol.

What really peeves me is that in the promos for the 2012 version, the age for Carousel has been dropped to 21. That's so Gen Y! I remember that it was Mick Jagger who said that anyone over 30 should kill themselves. I notice that he didn't!

21 was the age limit in the book. It was made 30 only in the movie. It would be hard to have the limit be 21 if you use actors in their 20s for the movie. Also, there was no Old man in the book. Actually, in the book it was Francis who was the man that lived more than one lifetime. He was the legendary person with the faulty crystal in his hand.

Interesting - I will have to see if I can track it down.
But I think today making the limit 21 is intended to appeal to a younger demographic.

So did I...and I think the Old Man was a good inclusion (can you tell he's my favourite character lol) because he helped to show the young ones that life is good at all its stages, even the ones between he and them that they couldn't see in the flesh. One of my favourite scenes is where the young people from the city gather round him on the steps, and he realises he will never be alone again.

The old man does not exist in the book. Logan and the girl escape in the end toward Sanctuary.

Jill, I liked the movie too. That is until the end. I have always thought the ending was very weak. I still have the LP album of the movie soundtrack.
