Hi -

I'd like to replace my current sewing machine with one of the small ones. I bought a Singer Pixie Plus but I'm going to return it because it's low quality. I don't sew a lot, but I do go through spurts and I sew all kinds of materials. I mostly want a smaller machine because of the space issue (also, I take my machine places and it's HEAVY.) I want straight and zig-zag stitches and the ability to reverse and I don't want a chain stitch machine. I can go use my mom's sewing machine when I need something more complicated (and I'm going to inherit my grandmother's Bernina eventually), so anything else is just a bonus. One thing I did like about the Pixie is it was well designed to work with a roll of fabric on the inside of the needle.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Julie

i used zipper foot 3 years ago ,it has asmall size and allows the needle to make a narrower seam.

You're inheriting a Bernina? I'm so jealous! Which model?

I totally get why you'd want a lightweight sewing machine to carry around, but the "micro" versions out there are just [censored]. There's no use spending even a little money on a low quality machine. It's only going to make your life miserable. The tricky part is finding a balance between quality and price. This is the model I recommend most often to people and why:

Hope that helps some!
