The film was Enchanted April Phyllis, and yes wasnt it super. It was at the beginning of the nineties.oh dear that sounds a long time agoso the chaotic eighties were not long gone and this film was just such a change of pace, and era. For those few hours I got completely caught up in it, it was genuinely enchanting.
That castle was in Italy, and it is still possible to hire castles in Germany, a bit like a holiday villa. Not too sure about other European countries these days, but probably.
And of course many German castles are hotels also, or at least part of the building is used as one, and in general they are not as expensive as most hotels.
Perhaps we should have a BellaOnline meet in a castle one year.
When my eldest son was very young we didn't live in Germany, but we used to stay in a small and really old castle whenever we were passing through the country to Austria or Italy. There he used to frighten himself by peering down the castle well where there was a skeleton lyingapparently being thrown down a well was a punishment in the good old days.
No, it wasnt a real skeleton of course, it just fitted perfectly to their very well equipped former dungeon. However he did not believe this even though we told him, and used to get very upset that months would have passed and no one had bothered to rescue the remains and bury them somewhere.

It would be glorious to have a BellaOnline gathering in a castle in Germany! I would probably not be able to attend, but, I can dream.
'Enchanted April' was a wonderful movie. I know a few people who have families back in Germany who live in castles. They have their own little apartment and share the kitchen downstairs, which is huge with the big old stone fireplace they still use for some cooking.
That is a delightful story about your son and his concern for the lonely skeleton.

I would love that, Francine. I have tried twitching my nose for a castle to appear on my little mountain, but it is just not working!

Watch those small cumulus (puffy) clouds in the morning or early afternoon. If the rounded tops of these clouds, which have flat bases, grow higher than the cloud's width, then there's a chance of a thunderstorm forming.
We still have not had a good thunderstorm here. Just a few rumbles here and there.

The evening red and morning gray Are sure signs of a fine day, But the evening gray and the morning red, Makes the sailor shake his head.

I learned the same atmospheric readings as:
Red sky at night, Sailor's Delight. Red Sky at morning, Sailor's take warning.
The two actually say the same thing.

Yes, they do say the same thing. My parents always taught us the way you say it. I found the other version and had never heard it before. It is much easier with your version.

If clouds are gathering thick and fast, Keep sharp look out for sail and mast, But if they slowly onward crawl, Shoot your lines, nets and trawl.

Hi Phyllis, could not find an interesting farmers proverb for August, perhaps because it was a month when farmers way back then were too busy working to be thinking about sage pieces of wisdom.
Harvesting of one thing or another is beginning all around at the moment, so this is something vaguely related to both farming and life, both then and now:
Sowing is not as difficult as reaping.
