Artist use many things to inspire them. Music, images, people and places can all be inspiring, but how often do you take time to be in complete silence?

The closest I would come to this would be the relative silence (compared to noisy radios, TV's, and people) of a walk in the forest or gazing up at the stars... which I always find very inspirational.

"There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear. In fact, try as we may to make a silence, we cannot." John Cage, composer.

I still do a "silent" meditation almost daily though and it's interesting because I hear so many things that I normally take for granted like my breathing, birds, wind, traffic, and especially my intuition : )

For inspiration or just relaxation I lie down on my bed with doors closed and look at my fan. It makes me feel cool and gives me immense relaxation and inspiration to move fast and work harder.

Even when I'm lying down doing nothing, my mind is always busy. Inspiration comes to me in those moments when I will my mind to think and create.

Rodav,
I have the same issue with a busy mind. The more time I spend in silence, allowing my mind to run through all of it's thoughts and plans and then bringing it back to relative silence, the more at peace I become. It may not be possible to completely silence your thoughts, but with practice you will notice less "static" in your mind and your thinking become more clear.

You've inspired me to get back to meditating on a regular basis, Debbie! I truly value it as a way to relax and clear my mind, but so often I feel I don't have the time. This evening I will MAKE the time.
