Reports are out that Tyler Perry has been cast as the latest Alex Cross in the film adaptation of I, Alex Cross, by James Patterson .

I, Alex Cross is the 16th book in series. Morgan Freeman played the role of Alex Cross in 1997 (Kiss the Girls) and 2001 (Along Came a Spider). Cross is a homicide detective with a background in forensic psychology in this popular Patterson series.

Do you think that Tyler is a worthy replacement for Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross? If not, who would you choose?

To be honest Edie, I have no idea but feel that with his awesome abilities, he can do anything he sets his mind to do.

I thoroughly enjoy "Meet The Browns" smile

Even though I enjoyed Morgan Freeman in the Alex Cross role, in my mind Alex Cross is younger and slightly beefier, not sure why or where this came from. Tyler Perry better fits my image of Cross ;-)

That would be interesting... sometimes it's a little hard watching him in non-Madea roles. He's really good, it's just almost a type casting thing. I now he would do a great job. More of the build I would expect of Alex Cross.

When someone is well known as a certain character, it can be a difficult transition for them to be accepted by the public when they move into another (wellknown) character.

You are so right Edie and I am guilty of doing this with my FAVORITE stuff (lol). For example, when Tom Selleck showed up in other stuff, I was not into him the way I was when he did the "Magnum PI" - he was a big joke as a detective, but I totally ENJOYED him and the scenery of course. Great subject smile

I still can't get into Blue Bloods as much as I would like. I sit there and look at Tom Selleck and go "Nahhhh." I think he is a good actor, just not our Tom from Magnum.

There will never be another Magnum PI with Tom Selleck as the star. What great times!!!

No actually, I don't see Tyler Perry being a good fit. Yes, they may do it and it will be interesting, but Tyler doesn't have the ambiance of a worldly type actor...meaning, he just is what he is and that's what he is.

Morgan Freeman, he's different. It's going to be hard to fill those shoes, but a comedian by trade, no. I'd go with a no name...someone that doesn't identify themselves as this or that. We'll see.

Elleise, interesting points. Sometimes someone we all know from other parts can be a bit of a distraction no matter how good an actor they are.

What do the rest of you think? Can Tyler live up to the hype?
