Has anyone ever attended a bad workout class at a gym? I went to the gym for my normal Monday night Afro-Brazilian dance class, the instructor couldn't make it so they had a Zumba class with a different instructor instead.

It was horrible!!! The music was too loud and even though she had on a mic, you couldn't hear her (when she did speak). Normally when they are about to change moves many instructors at least count down so you know there is a change coming. This lady, just kept changing moves so the class particpants kept stopping until they caught on to what she was doing. By the time I left, almost half way through, over half the class had walked out.

The bad part is that the rec center staff know that these new Zumba instructors are horrible, yet they continue to let them teach the class in an attempt to recoup from the one really good instructor that quit.

Happens all the time because health clubs are cheap and don't want to pay instructors what they're worth to teach. That's why it's better to take only from Zumba certified instructors who don't usually work in cheap health clubs. Look on their website to find one in your area.

This is also why I would never take a yoga class in a gym or pay for personal training from a place like 24 hour fitness or l.a. fitness. They pay their trainers $12 per hour! You get what you pay for and the going rate for a good instructor of any kind is at least $30 per hour (at least) and for trainers is $60 to $100 per hour.

Trainers charging less than that have little to no experience and cheap certs or no cert at all. Good instructors are worth the money : )Just ask anybody who's ever ended up in the emergency room after working with a bad trainer.

I've had very good experiences at our local YMCA as to classes. The yoga instructor is wonderful and I've even been to special classes she gives at her home. There is a big price difference though for her. She gets $20 a class at the Y but $10 each from us for an hour class at her home. At about 6-8 people in the home class, she makes a lot more money.

There is a tai chi instructor also who is probably the best you'd find. Other classes I've been to there, admittedly not Zumba or anything all that loud, were good too.

Sounds like bootcamp where people pay $15-$20 per hour to train with a group of 10-15 people. As long as the instructor knows what she/he is doing it's so worth it to go private : )

My bootcampers used to pay $17 per session to workout with 6 other people. I always felt that a group larger than that was too hard to monitor and the quality of instruction and results decline as the group gets bigger.

If you're going private be sure to stick with small groups.
