Have you tried candle making supplies from you local craft store? If so, how did it go? Did they meet your expectations? Were the candles for personal use? gifts? sale?

Hi Shanda:

It has been awhile since I been into a store like "Michaels" that has an AWESOME selection of craft supplies.

But YES, they always meet my expectations. I rather buy local so that I can return stuff if needed.

What about you?

Angela

I am so glad they work for you!! For me, I'm always looking for products that produce a "marketable" candle, so I am always analyzing the different aspects of it. Our Michael's and Joanne's has done away with most of its candle making products. I did find a well stocked line at Hobby Lobby. I am interested in trying the wax with higher quality fragrance oils and wicks. I like the texture of the wax but am completely unimpressed with the wick and scent throw. I also noticed they did not give the flash point of the scent oil, which is important. Although the scent oil will not catch fire if added (assuming it is a small ratio)to wax that is above the flash point of the oil, it can cause the scent oil to be useless.

I have mixed experiences with local crafts store supplies. I've tried "Michaels" for soy wax and containers. Overall they were okay. However, I bought a l1b bag of wax from another arts supplies store and it didn't turn out very well. I don't know what was the issue but it didn't even look like wax when I poured my candle. I had planned to use it for a sample to send out to a customer but ended up having to just keep the batch of candles. I don't think I'll risk buying soy wax from that store again but the "Michaels" wax was okay.
